die, some spam!
by Andy on Dec.09, 2009, under Security, Site Updates

If you haven’t browsed through fantom-stranger.com, I have a paste bin for directly pasting any text, into my site. Really handy for sharing text. It kind of an open security hole and recently, some bots have found it and taken the time to nestle in some content. Luckily I caught it before anything turned into a rash. The text-dump paste-bin has been updated and now employs recaptcha in attempts to narrow bot spam. This is my round 2 attempt as my first custom captcha didn’t stop any “inappropriate” content. I’ve also wiped the database to start a-fresh in “the text-dump pastes”, from this point forward. Bot spam will not be tolerated any longer and I will put harder captchas in place it comes down to that. Jerks.

The feature isn’t really so much of a feature as a welcome message to my newest contributor Kacie. Her humor might not be your style, but I don’t care, cause it’s my style. So, welcome to my site Kacie!
Quick & Easy PHP MySQL Backup Database and Email results
by Andy on Sep.24, 2009, under Computers & Technology, Development
I stumbled onto this nice lil’ script yesterday after I needed to find a solution for quick MySQL backups with PHP. The script will use ‘mysqldump’ to dump the database, tar it, and email it. It’s a nice script because it doesn’t require anything but Pear’s mail and mail_mime extensions.
NOTE: *nix only, unless you have tar the scripts box.
