Left 4 Dead 2 Demo

Well this is pretty much what is to be expected from valve with a sequel to Left 4 Dead. Zombies and more Zombies.

The demo doesn’t allow much of a preview except for the melee weapons. Other then that it is pretty much just like the first Left 4 Dead. The melee weapons are a blast though. Using a frying pan to bash a zombie in the head is always good old fun.

There is new special monsters as well as the old ones from the original game. There is now Chargers and Jockeys. The Chargers do just that. Charge you and then pound you into the ground. The Jockeys can be a real pain. They jump on your back and ride you like a step child. While this is happening you pretty much have no control and rely on your teammates to be close enough to shoot it off. If they’re a ways away from you it can cause pretty good damage to you. It can be frustrating when playing with the computer and they’re lagging behind for some dumb reason.

They also added other hand gun’s. They at least added a magnum if not others. That’s all that is in the demo. You don’t seem to be able to use two at once like the default hand gun. But it’s a one shot one kill for your standard zombie.

One new thing, I thought that was pretty cool was the defibrillator. You can carry it instead of a med pack. So when someone in your party falls to the zombie attacks you can zap them back to life with out waiting for the respawn. It’s pretty quick too. Doesn’t take as long as a med pack to use.

They added a new throwing weapon as well. Boomer Bile is a grenade type weapon that when thrown at a zombie or group of zombies all near by zombies attack them. It’s pretty handy for open areas.

Overall I like the game. I enjoy 4 person co-op missions. But I assume it will get old quick just like the first one. The system requirements are the same as the first game as it runs on the same half-life engine. I would not say it’s worth 50 bucks through steam. Pretty pricy for a game that will be beat in one day and old in a week. I will still get it and give a review of the full game. But the free demo is a lot of fun. I would recommend those with steam to download and enjoy for a few hours. That’s about all the time you’ll spend. Even on the hardest mode it’s not extremely difficult.
